The 5 Stages of Building Income Online — Starting From Zero at 46

People ask where I am in "the process," as if there's one road. There is — it just isn't the one in the ads. After weeks of building Wealth With Enrique from an actual zero, here are the five stages as they really happen, in the order they really happen.

Stage 1 — Foundation

Before products, before posts: the boring layer that everything stands on. A name. A domain (mine cost $1.18). A free blog. An email address on your own domain. Accounts claimed on the platforms you'll publish to. Nobody applauds foundation work, which is exactly why most people skip it and build on sand.

Stage 2 — First Product

Not a catalog. ONE small, useful thing, finished. Mine went: free guide first (to prove I could finish something), then a paid kit. Finishing one small product teaches you more than outlining ten big ones — scope is a skill, and completion is a muscle.

Stage 3 — Audience

Content, daily, in public — including the unglamorous truth that the first posts perform for an audience of almost nobody. This stage isn't measured in followers. It's measured in whether you can keep publishing when the metrics are silent. Systems help: my posts run on a 30-day series with a companion blog post each day.

Stage 4 — First Sales

The desert between "available to buy" and "somebody bought it" is where most beginners quit, because it feels like failure and it's actually just distribution. Nobody knows you exist yet. The work of this stage is direct: conversations, outreach, showing the product to real humans one at a time.

Stage 5 — Systems

Only after the manual version works do you automate it: an Instagram automation delivering the free guide, a survey collecting what your audience actually wants, a simple stack of free tools running the routine parts. Automating too early builds a very efficient machine for doing the wrong thing.

Where I actually am

Somewhere between Stage 3 and Stage 4 — audience building daily, first product live, sales work underway. I won't dress that up. But the stages have an order, and I'm climbing them in it, in public, at 46.

The 5 Stages of AI Mastery (And Why Most People Stall at Stage 2)

There's a pattern in how people actually get good with AI — not the hype version, the real one. It has five stages, and almost everyone you know is stuck at the second.
